Remember this thing? Me neither until recently. I decided to come back to it and tweak some things in the process. I think I'm going color, digital, and crazy. Other Corpse! Guy, Tarot Dude, and another friend are contributing some things of their own. I actually plan to get this thing printed eventually. More news as it comes.
Flyer for a S(l)am Neill show next month - we played one last night, which went pretty well. Unfortunately some fruits swiped our bass player's gear out of our drummer's car afterword. Dicks.
So roughly a year ago I started telling people that I was going to start an "alt-country" project called Nothin Reitz. Sometime after, I guess, I sort of did that. I've spent the last few months recording a six song demo (or whatever you want to call it), and you can download it from Bandcamp if you're inclined. I also decided I'd make a handful of real-life, touchy-holdy, CDrs for my friends - with hand-drawn covers and an extra, copyright-infringing, track with a dude from my other band, Sam Neill. I'm not sure why I did any of this, exactly, but there it is. BRB, changing name to Noone Kares. Really though, I'm pretty excited about it all. I'm looking into playing out at people eventually, and I already have another couple of songs in the works, so... hey.
I did this with water soluble colored pencils for my good friend Nick's dude cave. Full disclosure: this helped. I'm still kind of cruddy with brushes, but I think this turned out pretty well, considering. Not something I'd usually do which is probably a good thing.
More stuff soon; tunes, excessive self portraits (there he is), full-frontal male nudity - one post to rule them all and in obscurity bind them.
Oh hi. I've been wasting a lot more time on sounds than sights lately, hence the lack of updates. Here's another tarot what-have-you I did this morning. Subtle, I know. I should have another post up in a week or so with some audio, a download (if you're into that), and something else to look at. My band is playing another show in town this Thursday so I'm going to go see if I remember any of our songs.
I had a conversation with my friend Liz about plague doctors last week, and thought aloud "plague doctor riding a rat, holy shit!" After a few days of particularly unusual circadian rhythms I fleshed it out, and managed to streamline my thought process to a concise "holy shit!"
My dad asked me to draw something to put on his bike. Ed Roth was the first thing that came to mind. No confirmation yet, but he got a chuckle out of it, if nothing else.
My friend, Robert, of the excellent band South Reach let me make a flyer for a show in town. I drew this thing. I was trying to go for something different with the color, but it didn't come out very well, so I went to town in The Fauxtoshop. The umbilical cord was impromptu and kind of got lost in digital shuffle, but I'm still pretty proud of it. The formatting on this post is fucking ridiculous, as if I needed another reason to bitch about Google.
I got a hair up my ass and had to make a new banner. Is it legible? Does that matter in 2012? Would the movie Dead Alive have been made if someone had to draw all of that blood?
What is this, an excursion from excursions? I finally got around to tapping the bottle of ink I got as a late X-mosh gift from my folks. Having never really worked much with brushes, I kind of just fumbled around, trying out techniques I'd read about, or seen Bob Ross shred. It was pretty fun, and definitely more abstract/automatic than I usually go about things. Eventually I decided to embellish some of the more anthropomorphic shapes I spotted and this was the result. The last (janky camera-phone) picture is better-lit to give you an idea of just how much crud I heaped on, and to remind me to tape down the next one.
I might try to get some better quality shots up soon.
Okay. As you might have noticed, I've been working on some Tarot cards. So far it's been a pretty neat exercise, but a little more of a challenge than I expected. Case in point: this lady. I switched pens mid-drawing, and (oops) fucked her face up royally. Waaay more ink came out than I intended, and naturally, in the wrong places. I drew another head and tried to link it up in GIMP, which I'm not exactly... adept at, but I think it beat the hell out of the first take. I'll post the process when I get over the embarrassment.
Okay. Progress is slowing, as I expected it might, by this point. And my dude Trevor recently approached me with another project. So, I think I'll be shifting gears for a minute. It might take a little while to get back to steady updates, but it's set in motion. I think people are going to dig it.
